Dan Barron biography

Daniel Barron may seem like a fresh-faced automotive man among the veteran scribes throughout the automotive industry in Canada,

Daniel attended Centennial College for journalism and graduated in 2001. He worked co-op for several months at Canoe’s SLAM! sports section. After being hired as a freelancer and paying his dues working the overnight shift, he was offered a position as an online editor for Autonet.ca – a chance he instantly jumped at.

He was thrown into the fire early, being sent to the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto in February, 2004 – only a couple of weeks after starting his employment. It was an eye-opening experience, but one that served him well in the years to come. He quickly learned the two golden rules of attending auto shows: bring your own bag for press kits, and wear comfortable shoes.

In addition to appearing in Autonet, the Sun chain of newspapers, and 24 Hours, he also writes about gaming in Canoe’s Wham! gaming section.

In his free time, Daniel enjoys playing video games, perusing the latest science fiction novel and teaching his all-white cat how to stop shedding. He enjoys running (not from anything in particular), and watching any movie that involves Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider or giant robots that transform into cars.

Though he spent much of his early years crammed in the back of several iterations of the Dodge Caravan with his five siblings, he learned how to drive in his father’s ’94 Mercury Topaz. After getting his license and staying on his best behaviour (mostly), he even managed to get the Mazda Millenia for those nights when he wanted to impress. His first car was a 2003 Toyota Corolla and he still manages to find excuses now and then to take it out for a spin.

He is currently livin’ la vida loca. He resides in the outskirts of Toronto and though he has a short commute to work, there’s never a shortage of destinations for him to visit and he never hesitates to make excuses to drive all over southern Ontario. Driving is truly one of Daniel’s passions and he can think of nothing better on this Earth than cruising in a convertible with the top down on a hot summer night.
